Etimologia

Il nome del genere, mweqAcnodon, deriva dall'unione delle parole mwegacus (dal latino) mwewago + mwfaodous (dal greco) dente: evidentemente dovuto alla caratteristica dentatura.

Distribuzione e habitat

Queste specie sono diffuse in mwgqSudamerica, nel mwggbacino idrografico dei fiumi mwgwbrasiliani e della mwhaGuyana.

Acquariofilia

Una specie del genere, mwhwAcnodon normani, sebbene non molto diffusa in commercio per l'acquariofilia, è allevata prevalentemente da appassionati.
